Therapeutic Laughter is grounded in the ancient wisdom of mindfulness & mind-body medicine

proviso laugh connection.jpg

It’s like knocking on the door of adulthood and inviting your inner-child to come out and play.

Universally inclusive, laughing together allows us to connect and grow in healthy, authentic ways.

The documented health benefits of laughing, based on scientific research in bio-psych-neuro, and immune -ologies, include:

  1. shifts in perspective

  2. reduced stress

  3. pain relief

  4. better mood & memory

  5. mental clarity and creativity

  6. positive group dynamics

  7. increased energy and resilience

  8. more honest communication

  9. team building and emotional safety

  10. over-all sense of wellbeing

IT’S NOT:

  • Toxic positivity

  • Making light of serious matters, or to turning frowns upside-down is definitely not therapeutic. You’re not required to be silly, and self-care means quitting when it stops being fun.

  • Comedy or Jokes

  • Humor is subjective, but laughter is connective. We have to be careful about “joking” during times of stress, as it can be a slippery slope that may actually disconnect us from our authentic selves and each other.

  • Funny business

  • It’s not about making you laugh, since forced participation is never fun. Some aspects of the process may challenge certain comfort zones, but it’s always therapeutic when we work together in safe spaces.

  • Political, religious, or exclusive

  • We don’t laugh AT each other, we laugh WITH each other. Everyone smiles in the same language and laughing together allows us to celebrate our differences, which makes us stronger.
